Articles about Foreclosed Homes

The innumerable number of foreclosed homes dotting America has become a cause of grave concern. The foreclosure is a process by which the lender realizes unpaid dues by putting up the house that had been kept as mortgage security, for auction. The proceeds of the sale clear all the dues on the house. But since the meltdown of the sub-prime crisis the problem of foreclosed homes have gone beyond the playing fields of the borrower and the lender to engulf all sections of the socio-economic network in the country. It has also spilled over to impact negatively on the globe. Recession has become deep and rampant thanks to the story of foreclosed homes.

There are so many foreclosed homes that these are not finding buyers. Consequently the units are lying vacant and running to seed. The empty houses are attracting crime like magnets. Vandals are stripping the foreclosed homes of whatever can be resold – fittings and fixtures. Trespassers are lurking around damaging things just for the fun of it. Derelict houses have become havens for drug addicts and prostitutes. The more sophisticated criminals pose as landlords of foreclosed homes and let it out on rent. They then vanish after pocketing the security deposit and rent. The stagnant swimming pools are breeding disease-spreading mosquitoes.

With the real estate market being clogged with unsold foreclosed homes the government is not getting any revenue. This is leading to budget deficits and cuts in public expenditure.

In a chain reaction it has led to eviction of people who are now holing up in motels, cars, shelters and shacks in tent cities. Unrest is brewing and politicians are finding their thrones shaking and tottering.
