CEOs of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae Meets to Discuss on Foreclosure
Newly elected chief executive David Moffett of Freddie Mac and Herbert Allison of Fannie Mae are trying to find out ways of preventing the problem of home foreclosures. However, they say that this real estate crisis will take a few more years to get over. In an annual convention held on October 20, Moffett said, “I don’t think there is any magic bullet in regards to overbuilt markets” just as Miami and various parts of Nevada, California, and Arizona. Allison also had similar kind of views during this discussion session. He also promised the lenders that his company welcomes all ideas that can help in getting over with this grave situation.

US government appointed both of them just 7 weeks ago after the bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Both these firms have made application for managing a few of the mortgage assets that are below $700 billion rescue program of the government. This year so far, Fannie Mae has been able to prevent about 300,000 foreclosures. However, Allison feels the number to be not well enough and thinks that they need to work out more. According to Moffett, Freddie Mac is also working hard to look out for newer options of preventing foreclosure.

However, Moffett and Allison share the same view on the fact that it is not possible to save all the borrowers from the problem of foreclosure. This is because of the reason that several of them are suffering from very complex packages which are now possessed by the institutional investors from all over the world. Allison said, “Anything that is not necessary under the old traditions, we are going to discard,” Both Moffett and Allison are expecting that their effort will help in driving up the prices of home that has gone down due to this real estate crisis.

A rally was carried out by the protestors while the convention was on. They demanded for more foreclosure relief program. A woman somehow managed to reach the stage to face Moffett and Allison on the problem of foreclosure that has swept the country. Later she was brought down from there. Craig Hyman, a mortgage bank operator of Great Neck, New York said that a large number of people in the real estate market are highly tensed about what is going to take place in the future. On the other hand, Annette Alonso, a mortgage banker of Idaho, feels that the problem period is gone.
